This right was passed in 86th constitutional ammendment for education and today after 8 years a concrete step has been taken.
Highlights of the law are
- every child gets education in neighborhood school
- dropouts or out of school children will be identified and admitted to appropriate classes after special training
- The Act makes it obligatory for the appropriate governments to ensure that every child gets free elementary education.
- The Act mandates that even private educational institutions have to reserve 25 per cent seats for children from weaker sections.
- no school can deny admission to a student and all schools need to have trained teachers
Government needs 1.71 lakh crores to implement this law in next five years of which the Finance Commission has provided Rs 25,000 crore to the states for implementation of the Act.
Now more children can get education and that too with ease. Such efforts of the government directly affecting the masses are welcome.
